On the front page of CNN today, there is a story about some people who bought a home and found out that it had been used for Crystal Meth production. Unfortunately, Pennsylvania law does not require the disclosure of this issue. At RE/MAX Execs, we use a California Realtor’s form that specifically asks about this, so that if there were a later problem the Buyers would have recourse to go after the Seller in court. However, suing someone after the fact is not the easiest thing either. So I thought it was important to link to these poor people’s Blog here so that everyone can see the signs of previous Meth production use when considering a property. Although some of these signs are obvious (lots of cold medicine boxes in the trash for example), some others are a little more subtle, such as payment to landlord in cash all the time, people exiting the house to smoke cigarettes, and cloudy windows. I know I learned something from reading this blog, and I hope others do too. And if you are so inclined, you can chip in a dollar or two to help these poor folks out — it will take over $25,000 to detox their new home!
